Hello and welcome to my portfolio! I'm Chenyi (Lilliana) Qian, a graduating MFA student from NYU Game Center, with over 5 years of experience in game design and development. During my studies, I was exposed to various media and developed multiple skills in design, art and programming. I'm happy to share my games, projects, videos, animations, and drawings here.

Myth of Rules | 2023

Game Developer

Team Size: 6 | Engine: Unity

A text-based adventure puzzle game where players must struggle to survive in a world filled with ghosts and urban legends. While collecting clues, players will uncover the truth behind the world and find the way out. The game features a wealth of levels, unconventional rules, and a touch of horror. The game is released on Steam by indie studio Sugarcane Games, and includes a level editor.

What I worked on:

  • Gameplay Development: Developed node interaction, enemy behaviors, and level mechanics.

  • Level Editing: Edited start scene, UI panels and levels "Seeking Dragon" and "Pacific Square".

  • Visual Effects: Created various effects for transition, damage, monster and player interaction.

  • Built-in Editor: Developed in-game editor, used by players to create over 140 Workshop levels.

Snake Crush | 2023

Game Developer

Team Size: 6 | Engine: Unity

A Roguelite game that combines the gameplay of Snake with survivor mechanics. Players play as a large snake roaming above the city, clearing countless small monsters and spirits attracted by spiritual energy, as well as those frenzied large monsters. The game features diverse elemental skills, unique builds and various characters. The game is released on Steam by indie studio Sugarcane Games.

What I worked on:

  • Gameplay Development: Implemented multiple attack styles and upgrades, and partial monster logic.

  • Visual Effects: Developed effects for attacks, damage, match-three mechanics, upgrades, and buffs

  • Animation: Designed and developed procedural animations for snake tails, altars, chests, and transitions.

  • Level Editing: Built prefabs for snakes, altars, and bosses, and edited in-game UI.

  • Art Direction: Collaborated with artists to design characters and attacks

  • Graphics Enhancement: Adjusted lighting, shadows, fog, and object glow to enhance visuals.
